The department of Midwifery Science has been active since 2009 within the framework of the AVAG/Amsterdam Public Health research institute, which forms part of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. It has been working closely with the department of General Medical Practice at VUmc since 2012. Both departments belong to VUmc’s Division EPM. Since 2017, the Department of Midwifery Science has also been represented in Groningen, in collaboration with the General Practice Medicine of the UMCG.
The head of the department is professor Ank de Jonge. She works closely with the other senior researchers: Corine Verhoeven, Jens Henrichs, Lilian Peters, Esther Feijen and Janneke Gitsels. The department further employs multiple PhD students, lecturer-researchers, research assistents and a secretary.
